Hi guys, today I want to share something a little bit different with you on the blog. Indeed, I have said it in the past but I will say it again: to maintain optimal health, what you put ON your body is just as important as what you put IN it. Hence the topic of today’s post: What is Clean Beauty and Why It Matters.
The term Clean Beauty refers to products that are mindfully created and produced without any proven or suspected toxic ingredients. Clean Beauty products include ingredients ethically sourced and made with the health of our bodies and the environment in mind. (Source: here).
Unfortunately for us, most beauty and personal care products do not follow these guidelines. This means that many of us are exposing our bodies to toxic industrial chemicals on the daily via our cosmetics, personal care products, the food that we eat, the air that we breathe and the various household cleaning products that we use. Over time, this toxic load wreaks havoc within our bodies and creates many dis-eases.
Indeed, most chemicals present in beauty and personal care products have been linked to various illnesses and can lead to hormonal imbalances, skin issues, digestive problems and even neurological pathologies (Source: here) . And THAT is exactly why clean beauty matters.
Now, the good news is that you can do many things in order to decrease your exposure to such toxins. One of them is to pay attention to the kinds of products that you use on the daily. Go through all of your products at home (beauty, body care and cleaning products) and take a close look at the ingredients listed.
To make it easier for you, there exist some great online resources that help you find out exactly which chemicals are harmful to your health. You will find a lot of useful information about what to do and which brands to trust here:
Ever since I decided to commit to clean beauty products, I have had to say good bye to a lot of brands that I used to trust and use growing up. But the great news is that I have replaced them with some great alternatives. One of them being creating my own body care products at home DIY-style (e.g. my own body lotion ), and another one is discovering safe & clean beauty brands.
Today, I want to introduce you to 4 natural and clean body care brands.
These companies are all small businesses making a big impact because they genuinely care about the ingredients present in their products. They are transparent about what goes into their products and all of them care just as much about the health of our environment as they do about what we put on our bodies. I am so happy with their products that I have reached out to each brand to ask them if they would participate in my February Clean Beauty Giveaway**, and they all said yes !! ^__^
Note: **Read this post until the end to find out how you can participate! NOW CLOSED!
So, without further ado, let me introduce you to:
1. Leven Rose
I first discovered Leven Rose because I was looking for a clean, natural and organic rose water to use as my main facial cleanser and toner. I have now been using their rose water for over 6 months and my skin simply LOVES it. It smells amazing and it leaves my skin soft, clean and moisturized.
Check it out: here.
2. Bare Ethics
Bare Ethics is a company that is very dear to me as it started really small on Etsy and in Canada. This company specializes in bringing you clean, organic, and natural massage and body oils. Jazz, the owner, is very transparent about the ingredients that she uses to create each oil and every batch is still handmade in Canada. Bare Ethics is even rated on the EWG’s website. Find out more about this awesome brand over: here.
3. Nature Bare Body Care
Nature Bare Body Care is another company that was created out of necessity. The founder of the company, a mother, wanted to create eco-friendly, natural, sustainable, and high quality products that were free of any artificial chemicals, dyes, and other harmful ingredients. Let me tell you that she has succeeded! Her body butters glide on very smoothly onto your skin and will leave it moisturized and protected during the colder months. See for yourself: here.
4. Good Medicine Beauty Lab
Last but certainly not least, Good Medicine Beauty Lab is one of my favourite clean beauty brands out there! Created by a group of women in Utah, their products deliver in quality, luxurious, sustainable and natural ingredients. I am simply in LOVE with all of the products that I have ever tried from this brand (and I have tried many!). Their products smell AH-mazing and feel so rich onto the skin. It feels like going to a spa, right at home. Their website gives you all of the information concerning the ingredients present in each product and their benefits for your skin. I will be writing a separate post about my favourite products from this brand but for now, you can find out more about this awesome company over: here.
