Helping your body detox on a regular basis doesn’t have to be complicated nor does it have to use certain foods. Don’t get me wrong though, a healthy nutrition remains very important in order to prevent the accumulation of toxins within your body, which can burden your liver. However, today I want to share with you a few ideas that will help enhance some of the natural detoxification pathways of your body that have nothing to do with food! Indeed, here are 6 self-care rituals to help you detox. Yes, you read that right, you can treat yourself to some nice and relaxing body care treatment while you help your body detox at the same time. Isn’t that sweet? Learn just how easy it  can be in this article…

And since I am also hosting a self-care challenge on my blog this month, I thought it would be perfectly appropriate to give you a few more ideas to add to your self-care routine. You will see that they are really easy to incorporate and inexpensive. So, without further ado, here are:

6 self-care rituals to help you detox

1. Dry Skin Brushing

This is one of my favourite daily self-care ritual. It is so easy and so pleasant. All you need is a dry skin brush (which you can find on Amazon or at your local health food store). Once you have it, simply brush your skin gently in circular motions, starting from your feet in upward motions towards your heart; and from your neck, downward towards your heart. This will stimulate your lymphatic system, which takes care of the removal of toxins within your body. It will also remove any dead skin cells from your body (i.e. a gentle exfoliation too). A win-win situation ;).

Note: do not use the brush on your face as the bristles might be too harsh for that.

2. Warm to Cold Showering

This may not be your favourite practice but trust me it is oh-so-worth it! Indeed, when you alternate between warm* to cold water in the shower, it will stimulate your blood circulation and your lymphatic system. This also tightens your pores and creates glowing skin. Test it out for yourself during the first 2 minutes of your shower or at the end, right before you exit. I have been doing this for years now and I love it!

* Never shower with hot water as this strips your body’s natural oils and leaves your skin dull and dry.

3. Break A Sweat

This is another must in my weekly routine. Sweating is good for you, people. Especially if you sweat after a nice workout session. However, for a more relaxing type of sweating session, why not incorporate regular saunas into your self-care routine? Saunas (whether traditional hot saunas or infrared saunas) help stimulate the removal of toxins stored within your body via your sweat. Try to break a sweat a few times per week through your workouts or enjoy a nice relaxing sauna session once to twice per week. You will notice the difference ;).

4. Get A Massage

I have a feeling that this one will quickly become your favourite one… Indeed, a good massage will not only enhance your blood circulation but it will also move your lymphatic system. Both of these systems are essential for detoxification. So, go ahead and try to get a professional massage 1 or 2 per month. If not, ask a talented loved one ;).

5. Take A Detox Bath

Yes, it is possible to detox while bathing! Now, that’s definitely worth a try, right?

All you need is epsom salts (magnesium sulphate), which look just like bath salts. Pour about 2 cups into your bath water and for an even more relaxing experience, add a few drops of your favourite essential oil. Epsom salts contain magnesium, which is known to help stimulate the liver’s natural detoxification pathways. Moreover, magnesium also eases any muscle’s tension. I would recommend that you enjoy your detox bath for at least 45 minutes and right before bed for a great night sleep.

6. Sleep

Yes, sleep is important for detoxification too. Therefore, make sure that your sleep is of good quality and quantity. Indeed, the body’s primary tasks during sleep is rest and rejuvenation. When you sleep, your body is on “cleaning mode”. That’s why it is important to not eat too close to bedtime as this would interfere with your body’s detoxification processes. Allow at least 2 to 3 hours for digestion before you head to bed. This will improve not only the quality of your sleep but also your nighttime detox :).

And there you have it, folks: 6 new self-care rituals to help you detox.

Which one will you try?

Stay in vibrant health,

Sarah.
